Leslie Nielson, Cyber Monday, Bear Gall Bladders, and my first post!

How many times have you looked at a movie and thought, "What would this movie be like without this actor?" or "What would future actors have to live up to if this actor passed?" Most of us probably haven't, because in that moment of action/comedy/dramatic genius, it feels like they will live forever. Unfortunately, like all of us, our heroes in the movies are all mortal, and nothing proves that more than the death of a beloved Actor.

Leslie Nielson died yesterday[11/28/10] at the age of 84. I'm sure you have seen several of his movies, and TV appearances which, according to Wikipedia, he brought real and unique life to more than 220 characters spanning over 1,500 television programs and 100 films. If you don't recognise the name, you need to go back and watch[or Re-Watch 10-50 times] some classics like Airplane!, the first Naked Gun[and 2 1/2 and 33 1/3] and many others for a full list you can check out his page on IMDB(Internet Movie Data Base).

Thankfully, movies and TV programs are immortal, and will still be seen long after we are. And even if somehow that movie gets lost, or forgotten by our children. It will always live on in our hearts. But, all of this still begs the question What funny guy will strike us next? Guess thats one of the things we will have to wait and see.

Cyber Monday and more, after the break

Cyber Monday has struck again!
Cyber Monday is a made-up shopping holiday that brings people to think they should all shop on the same day. Why? According to Wikipedia the term surfaced Monday after Thanksgiving in 2005 when, I quote "77 percent of online retailers said that their sales increased substantially last year on the Monday after Thanksgiving, a trend that is driving serious online discounts and promotions on Cyber Monday."  So here is the big deal.

Local retailers advertise Black Friday deals, where you have to fight an angry mob of Tech-Geeks, Housewives and Underpaid Retal Workers, for all of these nifty, overpriced and understocked[and most of the time HOT] holiday gifts. Cyber Monday is essentially the same thing, except without the crowds; most of the items are still Understocked and sell out in minutes, Customer Support is usually busier than normal and uexpected shipping delays can turn an early Christmas gift into a late New Years gift.

In my honest opinion, buy all of your gifts before October, and if your kids find something that you can only get after October, tell them to go tell Grandma. Just Kidding, we Americans will still shop during Black Friday, and now Cyber Monday. Because a deal is a deal, no matter how many old ladies we have to run over to get the best one.

Who here is in the mood to go gut a wild bear?
No? Me neither! But apparently it is very profitable. Recent online circulation of various home remedies using the Gall Bladder from a bear has made this particular piece of Ursadae anatomy worth thousands! The gall bladders are so popular and have so much demand that there are 'farms' in many Asian countries that are dwindling the bear population at an alarming rate. Several indigenous bears are on the brink of extinction because of this [mal]practice. See what I did there?

But the real question is why? According to eQuickNews the organ is said to have healing properties, also in a survey of a few major cities in Vietnam say that 22% of the people use the organ, mostly among the educated. At least it isn't for some aphrodisiac, *cough*rhinoceroshorn*cough* but still serious enough. Also Bear Paws represent strength, and are also regularly consumed.

Lastly, I would like to point out that I do not condone the killing and/or farming of bears to sell their parts, in fact from what I can see it is illegal in most countries. So don't do it.

As you can see this is my first post on my brand new blog, and i would like to thank all of you for reading. I will be updating my profile and soon as I can, and I hope to bring you the latest news each day with a sense of Faux Optimism you all will come to expect! Or do I?
